Bob Marley in Ibiza: A Historic Concert
That's right, Ibiza is not just about electronic music and DJs. Bob Marley, the world-famous artist and musician, came to the island to perform a concert.
He arrived in Ibiza on Wednesday, June 27, 1978. As he stepped off the plane onto the runway, he was carrying one of his treasured guitars.
Immediately, two journalists from Spanish Television approached him. Despite looking tired, he greeted the world with his characteristic smile and a single word: RASTAFARI! Although he didn’t speak Spanish, he chose this word for its universal resonance.
It was Bob Marley who spoke it, and history was made that day on the Ibiza runway.
At the time, Spain was emerging from the shadow of a long dictatorship, and Bob Marley's arrival in Ibiza was a milestone. For three consecutive days, Ibiza welcomed the globally revered Bob Marley under its light and spirit of freedom.
His concert on the White Island was the only one he ever gave in Spain. However, it wasn't sold out due to local unfamiliarity with Bob Marley and the high ticket price of 1000 pesetas.
